It all started in the year 2017 when our present General Secretary, Shri Rantu Deka, a social worker accompanied a delegation led by the Principal, Gurukul Grammer Senior Secondary School Dr. Basanta Kr. Bhuyan with students of the school visited Sahityarathi Lakminath Bezbaruah’s residences at Sambalpur, Odisha on the banks of mighty river Mahanadi. In Sambalpur, Shri Deepak Panda, a historian, Environmentalist, Journalist along with the group and arranged for performing Sahityarathi Bezbaroa song “O mur Apunar Desh” in five languages namely Assamese, Odiya, Bengalee, Bodo and Hindi near his residence at Sambalpur. The program evoked much response from the locals of Sambalpur. The visiting group appreciated the effort of the people of Sambalpur in preserving the residences of Sambalpur and returned to Assam resolving to make efforts for turning it into a replica museum of works of Sahityarathi Bezbaroa and also a Tourist Spot.

After returning to Assam, it was felt that establishing a society will be more fruitful to take ahead all such endeavours. Accordingly, a committee was formed in the year 2018 with Shri Pradyut Kr. Choudhury as President and Shri Rantu Deka as the General Secretary with the name of “Sahatyarathi Laksminath Bezbaroa Smriti Raksha Samity” with offices at Guwahati, Kolkota and Sambalpur.

It was in this period that both Odisha and Assam Govt resolved to preserve both the existing houses of Sahityarathi Bezbaruah namely “Sadhana Griha and Basogriha” and accordingly both Govt sanctioned Rs.50.0 Lakh each for renovation of the houses through Indian National Trust for Art and Heritage (INTACH). The Sadhana Griha was taken up for the present. The President and General Seceratary visited Sambalpur thrice to co-ordinate with the two Goverment, in order to expedite the work. A fruitful discussion was also held in the office chamber of Honorable Minister Tourism etc of Odisha Shri Jyoti Prakash Panigrahi during the visit. The works of Sadhana Griha is now completed except some portion of display item being procured.

The Samity further discussed with Hon’ble Minister Cultural Affairs Shri Naba Kanta Doley and Commissioner and Special Secretary Shri Pritom Kumar Saikia for initiating the following

  • The birth place of Sahityarathi Bezbaruah i.e. Ahotguri in Morigaon District be converted into a Tourist Spot.
  • A direct airconditioned Train from Guwahati to Puri via Sambalpur in the name of “Sahityarath Express” be initiated.
  • A Guest House/ Tourist Lodge at Sambalpur for accommodating Tourist visiting Sambalpur be initiated.
  • A educational Chair in the name Sahityarathi Bezbaruah in Sambalpur University to be started.
